A message from Julie Pinkard
to prospective players and their parents.

Julie Pinkard - Coaching Coordinator

James River was started in 1984 in order to give female basketball players in and around Richmond an opportunity to unite and challenge other players their age by competing in state and national competition. In close to 30 years of existence, James River has earned a reputation of a quality organization in which people come together for the good of supporting healthy competition with other teams and programs outside of the state, specifically on a Division I national level. Over the years, other AAU organizations and independent teams have come and gone, while James River has successful competed at the Division I National level.

More recently, teams and organizations have been developed with emphasis on competing within the state. There are numerous opportunities to get involved with AAU now, and new programs will recruit you by calling, emailing, and reaching out to you in an effort to get you to play for them. James River does not actively recruit players. We also do not talk in a negative manner about other teams or organizations in an effort to build our program. We simply offer many years of AAU experience and knowledge, quality coaches, and a commitment to excellence!

This year, we will focus our resources on the older teams starting at the 8th grade level. Our goals continue to be to help athletes develop to their fullest potential on and off the basketball court, as well as to provide opportunities to be recruited to play college basketball. Our coaches have a tremendous amount of knowledge about what it takes in order to have the best opportunity to be recruited to play college basketball. Please feel free to call if you have any questions about coaching philosophy and are interested in playing for James River Blaze.
